Frequently Asked Questions about the sinking of the ex HMAS Adelaide II
When will the HMAS ADELAIDE be sunk?
It is intended for the ex HMAS Adelaide to be towed out of Sydney on or about
the 22nd March. The people doing the scuttling require a 4 day weather window of calm seas. It is hoped that by the 27th she will be resting on the bottom.
Where will the HMAS Adelaide diving wreck and artificial reef be located and how deep will it be?
The ex HMAS Adelaide will be sitting on the sea bed in 35 mtrs of water. The top of the mast will be in 6 mtrs. She will be approximately 1 kilometre SE of the Skillion, off North Avoca
What will the dives cost?
At this time we do not know what the Government Fee will be but it is envisaged that
a double dive with own gear will be around $120 plus fee. Double Dive with full hire
gear will be $180 plus fee. These might vary when we know what costs are involved.
What marine life can I suspect to see?
To start off
algae and barnacles, which will attract small bottom dwelling fish but it
should only be a few weeks before bream, yellowtail, sweep and kingfish should
appear. Octopus and morays will find hidey holes within the wreck and of course
we can always rely on a groper making a home on the site. Keep looking at our site
and we will try to update the variety of species accordingly.
Can I hire dive equipment?
You can hire from us from a full kit - down to just a tank and weights.
What visibility will I expect?
Visibility will range from approximately 20 metres to 4 metres - with some days
better or worse
How many dives will be required to explore the wreck?
We think that this will be a 6 dive wreck to fully explore the corridors, rooms, mess room,
bridge, engine room as well as the decks and hanger.
Are boat or shore dives available?
The ex HMAS Adelaide will be a boat dive. We do have however shore diving right outside our shop. We will also be taking boats out to the local reefs and other wrecks
for people who do not want to dive the ex HMAS Adelaide all the time. It is also
envisaged that Night Dives will be organised on the ex HMAS Adelaide.
When is the best time to come dive the HMAS Adelaide?
Although the air is cooler in the Autumn and Winter that is the time we get Westerly Winds
which make the seas flat with water temperature down to 17c. Spring and Summer can have
wonderful visibility with warmer water up tp 24c.but expect a typical Nor-Easterly wind come up in the
afternoon from about 3.00 p.m.
Do you have any other wreck or reef dives apart from the ex HMAS ADELAIDE Reef?
The seabed of the Central Coast is an underwater wonderland and, with over 40 years of exploring the coast, we think we know most of the best spots.
Many ships have foundered off the central coast and their skeletal remains can be found on the sea bed. These then become artificial reefs and havens great schools of fish. We have dives to suit the "very" experienced to divers who have just gained their Open Water Certificate.
The dive locations range from sponge and coral covered reefs to dramatic drop offs with underwater caves and swim throughs and gutters.

What is the time zone?
Terrigal is subject to Australian Eastern Standard Time which is UTC/GMT +10 . During the summer we take advantage of enjoying an extra hour sunlight when daylight saving is introduced and NSW switches to UTC/GMT +11.
Daylight savings come into effect on 4th Oct 2009 and finishes on 3rd April 2010.
